Softwood cladding is designed for use as wall and ceiling panelling, fascias, counter fronts, bank and shopfittings. All types offered are suitable for interior application. Many can also be used externally for cladding, curtain walling, canopy soffits etc.
Composition and manufacture - Natural solid timber, kiln dried to specification and machined to profile and should be sanded after fixing.
Storage - Care should be taken when it is stored before fixing. It is essential that it is piled flat in a dry undercover store and, where possible, in conditions of temperature and humidity similar to those in its intended location.
Fixing -Softwood cladding is designed for secret fixing as indicated and is normally pinned to battens or joists. Fixing pins should be rustproof and their lengths should be at least twice the thickness of the board. Supports should be at centres in accordance with normal building practice. Softwood cladding should not be fixed to new brickwork, etc, until it is thoroughly dry and all heating tests have been completed. It is good practice to seal the reverse of the boards to prevent the absorption of moisture.
Surface Treatment - Softwood cladding will accept most good quality, proprietary wood finishes, which should be applied according to the makers decision. Maintenance - Softwood cladding requires the minimum of maintenance when used for internal applications. External surfaces should be revarnished every 1 to 2 years or treated with water-repellent preservative stain every 2 to 4 years.
